Other than meeting with Dodgers owner Frank McCort last weekend, Manny Ramirez has not spoken to his Los Angeles Dodgers teammates or coaching staff since being suspended for 50 games on Thursday May 7 until this Friday.
Dodgers manager Joe Torre said at a press conference Saturday that he, Ramirez and the Dodgers team had a meeting Friday at their Miami hotel.
Torre said, "What we did yesterday was important just to turn the page. It was the first time guys have seen him since the suspension came down. They see he's functioning OK."
Manny Ramirez was suspended for a drug violation. He tested positive for HCG, human chorionic gonadotropin, a female fertility drug (maybe Ramirez is preggers). HCG is popular with steroid users because it can lessen the side effects of ending a cycle on the drugs. Major League Baseball banned HCG last year.
Ramirez’s suspension was based on evidence obtained from sources after his spring-training urine test.
"I'm just guessing sometime this week he will be working out with us," said Torre at the press conference. "There's no definitive thing, but I expect him to do that."
Ramirez will lose $7,650,273 of his $25 million salary and will return July 3 in San Diego.
