"Sex and the City" Star Cynthia Nixon Engaged to Partner

May 18, 2009

“Sex and the City”’s Cynthia Nixon announced her engagement to partner and education activist, Christine Marinoni.

Nixon displayed her engagement ring on Sunday in midtown Manhattan at a rally for Action-Equals-Marriage Equality.

One of her representatives, Charlotte Burke, confirmed her engagement to the Associated Press.

John Hiscock of the U.K.’s Telegraph published his interview with Nixon on May 13, 2008, which included a discussion on her romantic relationships.

Nixon told Hiscock, “I started dating my girlfriend [Marinoni] in 2004, and the press got wind of
it around the time I won the Emmy.”

She said, “In terms of sexual orientation I don’t really feel I’ve changed. I don’t feel there was a hidden part of my sexuality that I wasn’t aware of. I’d been with men all my life, and I’d never fallen in love with a woman. But when I did, it didn’t seem so strange. I’m just a woman in love with another woman.”

“I’ve always been wary of marriage,” Nixon said. “I felt it was a potential trap because some people want the party and the gifts and the public celebration – rather than the commitment. But, if it becomes legal, we might. My girlfriend is interested, whereas my boyfriend [Danny Mozes] never was. I also think that for us to get married would be a little act of rebellion. It’s like getting the vote – you’d do it because you’ve never been allowed to before” (Hiscock, Telegraph).

Nixon’s marriage to Marinoni will be the first for the 43 year-old. She has one son and one daughter with former partner, Danny Mozes.
