Britney Spears Overspent

June 1, 2009

Britney Spears makes a lot but spends nearly all of it. Britney has spent about $10 million since February 2008.

Last year Spears earned about $12 million, but most of it was spent on security guards, staff, legal fees, her two boys Sean Preston and Jayden James and her opulent lifestyle.

Her finances were exposed in documents filed by lawyers recently for her father Jamie who is her legal conservator.

Britney’s biggest expense was the $2.7 million she spent on lawyers in 2008. $1.06 million was spent on “miscellaneous business expenses,” $625,000 was spent on her custody dispute with her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, $447,633 on bodyguards and security, $138,369 on credit payments, $105,000 on a rented home in Malibu, CA, $178,818 on childcare, $188,556 on employees and assistants, $285,594 on mortgage payments for her other homes and $137,554 on general living expenses.

Jamie Spears’s lawyer, Geraldine Wyle is seeking continued conservatorship of Britney by her father.

She said, “Since the initiation of the conservatorship, as a result of the concerted efforts of Mr. Spears as well as the professionals involved, all aspects of Ms. Spears’s life have been stabilized and continue to improve."

Britney was held two times in a psychiatric ward under a 5150 designation before Jamie was made her conservator. Wyle admitted Britney’s mental health had improved over the last year and that she has won "substantial visitation" with her sons and her career "has been revitalized.”

Britney said a number of times in her recent MTV documentary For the Record that she did not want the conservatorship and that she felt trapped.

It’s pretty weird that Britney’s dad allowed her to make some of these purchases, such as the $105,000 rented home in Malibu since she owns a home in Malibu and at least one other home about 15 minutes away. Also, the $1.06 million on “miscellaneous business expenses” and the $447,633 on security guards were probably all tax deductible.
