Paula Abdul Said She Went to Rehab...Now Says No, No, No

May 8, 2009

Practically everyone has seen Paula Abdul act weird, slurring her speech and dozing in-and-out while speaking at various interviews and at "American Idol." Many people even refer to her as “crazy Paula,” and have suspected her strange behavior is due to prescription drugs.

It seems the speculation was right. This week Ladies’ Home Journal printed an interview they did with Paula Abdul that said she checked into rehab at the La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, CA this Thanksgiving to detox from her painkiller medication addiction. However, Abdul said yesterday that she did not say she went to rehab.

Ladies’ Home Journal stands by its story, which most likely means their story is true and most likely have recorded proof of what Abdul said.

The magazine claims Abdul said, “I could have killed myself…Withdrawal – it’s the worst thing. …I was freezing cold, then sweating hot, then chattering and in so much pain, it was excruciating. But at my very core, I did not like existing the way I had been.”

Abdul said on a Detroit radio show Thursday, “Mojo in the Morning,” that she only checked into the resort for a spa vacation.

She said, “It’s a spa. I was there for almost three days having fun doing spa stuff.”

The venue she chose to dispute the article seems a bit weird, since it's not a major news outlet.

According to the article, Abdul has been struggling with addiction to the opioid painkillers for twelve years.

Ladies’ Home Journal refuses to retract its article, and their spokeswoman told TVGuide.com, “We stand by our reporting and are happy Paula decided to share her story with us.”

Before Allison Iraheta's elimination on Wednesday’s American Idol, Paula sang, or rather lip-synced, her new robotic-sounding song, “I’m Just Here for the Music.” Her performance included fireworks and fog, and she was dancing the whole time with six other dancers.

On her Twitter page today, she said, “Thanks for all the support! As for [an] album, I am hoping sometimes [sic] this summer :) Stay tuned…”

"Stay tuned"...Do we really want to?
