First Lady Michelle Obama addressed the first graduating class at UC Merced on Saturday. The Californian university is just four years old.
There were 493 graduates and 12,000 people in attendance.
Obama's speech was much less controversial than her husband's address at Notre Dame's commencement ceremony.
She told the graduates, "Remember that you are blessed - remember that in exchange for those blessings you must give something back. You must reach back and pull someone up. You must bend down and let someone else stand on your shoulders so that they can see a brighter future."
On a funnier note, Obama said, "My office received thousands of letters - like the one from Christopher Casuga that read, 'Dear Mrs. Obama, Please come to UC Merced's Commencement. We could really use the publicity.' That really touched me."
The first lady received 900 Valentine's Day Facebook cards from Merced students to entice her to be their keynote speaker.
